Lily Williams biography

Lily Williams is an author and illustrator known for her work in children’s non-fiction and picture books. She studied at California College of the Arts, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation. Williams has worked in visual development and story art, including for the animation industry, before focusing on children’s literature.

Williams is the creator of the If Animals Disappeared series, which explores the impact of species extinction on ecosystems. The first book in the series, If Sharks Disappeared, was published by Roaring Brook Press in 2017. This was followed by If Polar Bears Disappeared in 2018 and If Elephants Disappeared in 2019. The series is noted for its accessible explanations of environmental issues and its use of engaging illustrations to communicate scientific concepts to young readers.

In addition to her non-fiction work, Williams has illustrated and co-authored graphic novels. She collaborated with Karen Schneemann on the graphic novel Go With the Flow, published by First Second in 2020. This book addresses themes of friendship and menstruation, aiming to provide information and support for young readers navigating adolescence.

Williams’ work has been recognised by educators and librarians for its educational value and its ability to introduce complex topics to children in an approachable manner. Her books have been included in recommended reading lists and have received positive attention from organisations focused on children’s literacy and environmental education.

In 2022, Williams published If Tigers Disappeared with Roaring Brook Press, continuing her exploration of endangered species and their importance to the natural world.
