LeUyen Pham biography

LeUyen Pham is a children’s author-illustrator and illustrator whose work spans picture books, early chapter books, and graphic novels.

She received a 2020 Caldecott Honor for her illustrations in Bear Came Along, written by Richard T. Morris and first published in 2019.

Pham is the illustrator of the Freckleface Strawberry picture book series written by Julianne Moore, and she illustrated Grace for President by Kelly DiPucchio. She also illustrated The Princess in Black (2014), the first book in the early chapter book series by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale.

Her work with Shannon Hale includes illustrating the graphic memoir Real Friends (2017) and its follow-up Best Friends (2019).

As an author-illustrator, she created Outside, Inside (2021), a picture book reflecting on the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2025, Lunar New Year Love Story, created with Gene Luen Yang and published by First Second/Macmillan in 2024, won the Eisner Awards for Best Publication for Teens and Best Graphic Album – New.
