Kiyohiko Azuma biography

Kiyohiko Azuma is a Japanese manga artist known for his work in the field of children’s and young adult comics. He began his professional career as a manga artist in the late 1990s. Azuma is best known for creating the manga series Azumanga Daioh, which was first published in 1999. The series was serialised in the magazine Dengeki Daioh and later collected into four volumes by MediaWorks.

Following the success of Azumanga Daioh, Azuma created another popular manga series, Yotsuba&! (Yotsuba to!), which began serialisation in 2003. Yotsuba&! is published by ASCII Media Works in Japan and has been released in English by Yen Press. The series follows the daily adventures of a young girl named Yotsuba and is noted for its slice-of-life storytelling and humour.

Azuma’s works have been recognised for their distinctive art style and character-driven narratives. Yotsuba&! has received attention both in Japan and internationally, with English-language editions making the series accessible to a wider audience. As of 2023, Yotsuba&! continues to be published, with multiple volumes available in English translation from Yen Press.
