Kenta Shinohara is a Japanese manga artist best known for creating the series Sket Dance and Kanata no Astra (also known as Astra Lost in Space). Shinohara began his career as an assistant to Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of Gintama, before debuting as a manga artist in his own right.
Shinohara’s first major work, Sket Dance, was serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2007 to 2013. The series follows the members of the Sket-dan, a high school club dedicated to helping students with their problems. Sket Dance was adapted into an anime television series and received recognition in the manga industry.
Following the conclusion of Sket Dance, Shinohara created Kanata no Astra, which was serialised in Shonen Jump+ from 2016 to 2017. The story centres on a group of students stranded in space, working together to survive and return home. Kanata no Astra was later adapted into an anime series.
In 2011, Sket Dance won the 55th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category.
