Kengo Kurimoto is an artist, animator and game designer who creates across books, sculpture, film and console games. His practice emphasises close observation of the natural world and near-wordless visual storytelling, culminating in his debut graphic novel Wildful.
Wildful follows a girl who discovers a hidden woodland and, through careful attention to its creatures and rhythms, finds a way to meet grief with wonder. The book’s quiet pacing and panel sequences foreground sensory detail and non-verbal narrative – an approach Kurimoto has highlighted in statements about letting pictures speak and inviting readers to slow down.
Wildful was first published by Groundwood Books on 6 February 2024 – 216 pages, ISBN 9781773068626 – with a UK hardback from Pushkin Children’s Books on 8 May 2025 – 216 pages, ISBN 9781782694892.
