Keith Negley is an author and illustrator of picture books for young children. His work has been used on book covers, children’s books, T-shirts, album covers, posters, skateboard decks and a watch. He received a BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2000 and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2013.
Tough Guys Have Feelings Too was published by Flying Eye Books on 3 November 2015. The picture book uses minimal text and bold illustrations to show that characters such as ninjas, wrestlers, knights and superheroes can feel sad and cry. The book is aimed at children aged 3 to 5 and has a Lexile level of AD590L.
Mary Wears What She Wants was published by HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray in January 2019. Negley wrote and illustrated the book, which is inspired by Mary Edwards Walker, a nineteenth-century doctor who challenged expectations about girls’ and women’s clothing by wearing trousers.
Negley has received medals from the Society of Illustrators, the Society of Illustrators West and the 3×3 International Illustration annual. Tough Guys Have Feelings Too received a Kate Greenaway Medal nomination in 2016.
