Keith Negley is an American author and illustrator known for his work in children’s literature. He has illustrated and written several picture books, including Tough Guys (Have Feelings Too), published by Flying Eye Books in 2015. The book explores themes of emotions and vulnerability and has been translated into multiple languages.
Negley’s subsequent titles include My Dad Used to Be So Cool (Flying Eye Books, 2016) and Mary Wears What She Wants (Balzer + Bray, 2019). My Dad Used to Be So Cool was longlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2017. Mary Wears What She Wants is based on the true story of Mary Edwards Walker, a pioneering female doctor and advocate for dress reform.
Negley’s illustrations have appeared in publications such as The New York Times and The New Yorker. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work has been recognised by the Society of Illustrators and Communication Arts.
In 2021, Negley published Farmhouse with Balzer + Bray. His books have received critical attention and have been featured in various best book lists. Tough Guys (Have Feelings Too) was named a Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People by the National Council for the Social Studies and the Children’s Book Council.
