Kazue Kato biography

Kazue Kato is a Japanese manga artist best known for creating the series Blue Exorcist. According to her official website and publisher Shueisha, Kato began her professional career in manga after winning an award in 2000 for her work Boku to Usagi. She subsequently published several short stories before launching her first serialised manga, Robo to Usakichi, which ran in Monthly Shōnen Sirius from 2005 to 2007.

In 2009, Kato started serialising Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine. The series follows Rin Okumura, a teenager who discovers he is the son of Satan and trains to become an exorcist. Blue Exorcist has been published in multiple volumes by Shueisha and has received adaptations in other media.

Kato’s work is characterised by supernatural themes and dynamic artwork. She has contributed to various anthologies and has provided illustrations for other projects. In 2022, Kato began a manga adaptation of Fuyumi Ono’s Eizen Karukaya Kaiitan in Jump Square.
