Kathy Stinson is a Canadian author known for her contributions to children’s and young adult literature. She began her writing career in the early 1980s and has published numerous books for young readers. Stinson’s debut picture book, Red is Best, was published in 1982 by Annick Press. The book has become recognised for its portrayal of a young child’s perspective and has remained in print for decades.
Stinson has written across a range of genres, including picture books, early readers, and novels for older children. Her works often explore themes relevant to children’s everyday experiences and emotions. Among her other notable titles are The Man with the Violin, illustrated by Dušan Petričić and published by Annick Press, and Marie-Claire: Dark Spring, part of the Marie-Claire series published by Scholastic Canada.
Stinson’s books have received recognition in Canada and internationally. The Man with the Violin was awarded the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award in 2014. Stinson continues to write and publish books for children and young adults, with her work being published by several Canadian publishers, including Annick Press and Scholastic Canada.
In 2014, The Man with the Violin won the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award.
