Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Kate Mallinder is a British author of fiction for children and young people. She writes contemporary stories that explore themes relevant to young readers. Mallinder studied at Bath Spa University, where she completed an MA in Writing for Young People.
Her debut novel, Summer of No Regrets, was published by Firefly Press in 2019. The book follows four friends during a summer of self-discovery and adventure. Mallinder’s second novel, Asking for a Friend, was released by Firefly Press in 2020. This story centres on three friends who embark on a road trip, each with their own secret.
In 2022, Mallinder published As If On Cue with Firefly Press. Her books are aimed at readers aged 10 and above, and she is known for writing about friendship and personal growth. Mallinder is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
Her novel Summer of No Regrets was published by Firefly Press in 2019.
