Johnny Flynn is an English writer, musician and actor whose work for young readers includes a picture book collaboration with Robert Macfarlane. In 2019 he composed music and lyrics for the UK stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Zog, produced by Freckle Productions and the Rose Theatre.
Flynn co-authored the picture book The World to Come with Macfarlane, illustrated by Emily Sutton. The book grew from a song of the same name written for their 2021 album Lost in the Cedar Wood and was published on 3 October 2024. Trade and retail listings describe it as a lyrical father-and-child walk through changing seasons, intended for shared reading at home and in school settings.
Beyond print, Flynn has narrated a range of literary audio projects and continues to compose and perform for stage and broadcast. His cross-disciplinary work frequently links literature, music and nature, and has included writing for radio drama as well as composing for family audiences.
The World to Come was selected as a Times Book of the Year in 2024.
