John Woodward biography

John Woodward is a British author of children’s non-fiction whose books focus on earth science, geography, wildlife and the environment. He has written and edited numerous visual reference titles for major publishers, including Dorling Kindersley (DK) and Kingfisher.

Woodward’s works include large-format encyclopedias and topic guides for primary and lower-secondary readers. Notable titles are Ocean: A Visual Encyclopedia (DK, 2015), Geography: A Children’s Encyclopedia (DK, 2013), How to Be a Genius (DK, 2009), Everything You Need to Know About Snakes (DK, 2012), and Eyewitness Climate Change (DK, 2021). He has also contributed to series such as Kingfisher’s “Wow!” and DK’s “Knowledge Encyclopedia” and “Eyewitness” ranges.

Across these books, Woodward explains processes such as weather systems, plate tectonics and ocean ecology, and introduces animal biology and conservation topics. His titles are used in schools and libraries and have been translated for international editions.

The revised edition of Knowledge Encyclopedia Dinosaur! (DK, 2019) is credited to DK with John Woodward as contributor.
