Jim Crace is a British novelist whose work is noted for blending realism with allegory and myth. He studied English Literature at the University of London and worked in publishing and as a freelance journalist before turning to fiction.
His debut novel, Continent, was published by Jonathan Cape in 1986 and won the Whitbread First Novel Award, the Guardian Fiction Prize and the David Higham Prize for Fiction. Subsequent novels include The Gift of Stones (1988), Arcadia (1992), Quarantine (1997), Being Dead (1999), The Pesthouse (2007), Harvest (2013) and The Melody (2018).
Quarantine was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, while Being Dead won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 2000. Harvest won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2015 and was also shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2013.
Crace’s fiction has been translated into multiple languages and has received recognition across Europe and North America. He has also written radio plays and short stories for magazines and broadcast.
He received the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2015 for Harvest.
