Butterworth’s plays include The Night Heron (2002), The Winterling, Parlour Song, Jerusalem (2009) and The River (2012). His 2017 play The Ferryman premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, later transferring to the West End and Broadway, and won the Olivier Award for Best New Play.
