Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Jamie Carroll is an author and illustrator of children’s books. He is described by The O’Brien Press as an author-illustrator from Dublin who works in the Irish animation industry.
Carroll made his debut in picture books with Milo and the Mountain, published by The O’Brien Press. The hardback edition (ISBN 9781788495257) was published in September 2025, followed by a paperback edition (ISBN 9781788496698) published on 2 February 2026.
In a first-person account for Writing.ie, Carroll described training in animation at Ballyfermot, working in the Irish animation industry for around a decade, and developing Milo and the Mountain alongside editorial and art direction support at The O’Brien Press after pitching the project at the publisher’s Culture Night “Pitch Perfect” event.
Milo and the Mountain was longlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize 2026.
