Io Sakisaka is a Japanese manga artist known for her work in the shōjo manga genre. She began her professional career with the manga Sakura, Chiru., which was published in 2000 in the magazine Bessatsu Margaret by Shueisha. Sakisaka is best known for her series Strobe Edge and Ao Haru Ride, both of which were serialised in Bessatsu Margaret.
Strobe Edge was serialised from 2007 to 2010 and collected in ten volumes. The story focuses on themes of first love and emotional growth among high school students. Following this, Sakisaka created Ao Haru Ride, which ran from 2011 to 2015 and was compiled into thirteen volumes. Ao Haru Ride explores the complexities of adolescent relationships and personal change.
After the conclusion of Ao Haru Ride, Sakisaka launched another series, Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare (also known as Love Me, Love Me Not), which was serialised in Bessatsu Margaret from 2015 to 2019. This series was collected in twelve volumes and continues her focus on the emotional lives of teenagers.
Io Sakisaka’s works have been published in English by Viz Media, with Strobe Edge, Ao Haru Ride, and Love Me, Love Me Not all available in translation. Her manga have also been adapted into live-action films and anime series in Japan.
In 2020, Love Me, Love Me Not was adapted into an anime film, marking a significant milestone in Sakisaka’s career.
