Humera Malik is a children’s author and elementary school teacher whose books centre family, heritage and confidence-building for young readers. A British–American Muslim of South Asian background, she writes picture books and faith-centred nonfiction for homes, schools and libraries.
Her debut trade picture book, The Great Henna Party (Lantana Publishing, 14 March 2024; illustrated by Sonali Zohra; ISBN 9781915244604), follows a child at a pre-wedding mehndi celebration and introduces henna customs to early readers. The title was selected for BookTrust’s “Books We Love” (February 2024) and listed by BooksForTopics among its “50 Best Books for Year 1” (2025).
Malik’s subsequent picture books include Saif’s Special Patches (Soaring Kite Books/Lerner, 4 March 2025; illustrated by Ravan Sader; 32 pp.; ISBN 9781958372678), a social-emotional learning story about a shy boy drawing courage from a memory quilt, and Farah’s Nose: A Celebration of South Asian Heritage and Family (Hachette Children’s Group, July 2025; illustrated by Chaaya Prabhat; 32 pp.; ISBN 9781444976618), which links body image and pride with intergenerational histories.
Earlier work includes faith-education titles such as The Story of the Holy Prophet Muhammad: Ramadan Classics – 30 Stories for 30 Nights (Green Key Press, 2017; ISBN 9780998978208), and mindfulness resources for Muslim families.
Across these projects, Malik’s writing pairs clear, age-appropriate text with culturally specific settings, aiming to support inclusive classroom discussion and early independent reading.
Most recent dated milestone: UK publication of Farah’s Nose, Hachette Children’s Group, July 2025.
