Haruichi Furudate biography

Haruichi Furudate (born 7 March 1983) is a Japanese manga artist best known as the creator of the volleyball series Haikyu!!.

Furudate gained early recognition when the one-shot King Kid received an honourable mention in the 14th Jump Treasure Newcomer Manga Prize (2008). His first serial, the school-horror manga Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya-senpai no Kaidan, ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2010. Two Haikyu!! one-shots followed in 2011, leading to full serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 20 February 2012 to 20 July 2020. Shueisha collected the series in 45 tankōbon volumes.

Haikyu!! received the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award (shōnen) in 2016. The series has been adapted widely, including a television anime produced by Production I.G (first broadcast 2014) and theatrical films.

Internationally, the manga has been licensed in English by Viz Media, with chapters also made available via Shueisha’s Manga Plus service. Related stage and screen projects continue to introduce new audiences to the property.
