Hajime Isayama is a Japanese manga artist best known for creating the series Attack on Titan. He was born in Ōyama, Ōita Prefecture, Japan. Isayama began developing the concept for Attack on Titan while he was still in school, and he later submitted a one-shot version of the story to Kodansha, a major Japanese publishing company.
Attack on Titan was first serialised in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. The series quickly gained attention for its distinctive setting and narrative. Isayama both wrote and illustrated the manga throughout its run. The story is set in a world where humanity resides within enormous walled cities to protect themselves from giant humanoid creatures known as Titans.
The manga concluded in 2021 after 139 chapters. Kodansha has published the series in collected volumes. Attack on Titan has received several accolades, including the Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2011.
