Gregory Rogers was an Australian illustrator and author known for his contributions to children’s literature. He studied at the Queensland College of Art and began his career as a graphic designer before moving into illustration. Rogers illustrated a range of children’s books, collaborating with several authors, and also created his own wordless picture books.
Rogers is particularly recognised for his work on the picture book Way Home, written by Libby Hathorn, which was published in 1994. This book received the Kate Greenaway Medal, awarded by the Library Association in the United Kingdom for distinguished illustration in a book for children. Rogers was the first Australian to win this award.
In addition to his collaborative projects, Rogers wrote and illustrated the “Boy” series of wordless picture books, beginning with The Boy, the Bear, the Baron, the Bard, published in 2004. This was followed by Midsummer Knight in 2006 and The Hero of Little Street in 2009. These books are noted for their detailed illustrations and imaginative storytelling without text.
Rogers’s illustrations have appeared in works by authors such as Margaret Wild and Gary Crew. His books have been published by a range of publishers, including Allen & Unwin and Roaring Brook Press.
