Gosho Aoyama is a Japanese manga artist best known for creating the long-running series Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed. He was born in Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Aoyama studied at Nihon University College of Art, where he graduated before beginning his professional career in manga.
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist in 1987 with the work Chotto Mattete, which was published in Weekly Shōnen Sunday. He later created Magic Kaito in 1987, a series featuring a young magician, which has been published intermittently.
In 1994, Aoyama began serialising Detective Conan in Weekly Shōnen Sunday. The series follows high school detective Shinichi Kudo, who is transformed into a child and takes on the alias Conan Edogawa while solving various mysteries. Detective Conan has been adapted into an anime television series and numerous animated films.
Aoyama has received several awards for his work. In 2001, he was awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category for Detective Conan.
