Fidan Meikle is an Azerbaijani-British writer, poet and linguist whose work spans children’s fiction and poetry for adult and young audiences. Her writing often explores identity, belonging and the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers.
Her debut middle-grade novel, My Name Is Samim, was published by Floris Books (Kelpies) on 22 May 2025. The story follows a boy’s journey from Afghanistan to the UK and his efforts to rebuild a life after loss. The book was acquired after Meikle pitched the project at a Scottish BPOC Writers Network event and has since attracted notice from organisations and reviewers focused on children’s reading and human rights.
Alongside fiction, Meikle’s poems have appeared in publications including Scottish PEN’s PENning, Sunday Morning at the River, Motherlore and titles from SpellBound Books. Her background in linguistics and translation informs a precise, reader-centred approach to language and voice.
