Fatimah Asghar biography

Fatimah Asghar is an American poet, screenwriter and author. They co-created and wrote the Emmy-nominated web series Brown Girls, which premiered in 2017 and explored friendship, identity and sexuality.

Asghar’s debut poetry collection, If They Come for Us (2018), examines themes of family, diaspora, trauma and resilience, reflecting on their experience as a Pakistani-Kashmiri Muslim orphan in America. Their first novel, When We Were Sisters (2022), was longlisted for the National Book Award for Fiction in the United States.

If They Come for Us was published by One World/Random House in 2018.
