F. Scott Fitzgerald was an American novelist and short story writer, regarded as one of the leading authors of the Jazz Age. He studied briefly at Princeton University before pursuing a literary career.
His first novel, This Side of Paradise (1920), brought him immediate fame. He went on to write The Beautiful and Damned (1922), Tender Is the Night (1934) and his best-known work, The Great Gatsby (1925), which explores themes of wealth, ambition and illusion in 1920s America. Fitzgerald also wrote numerous short stories published in magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post.
Although his later years were marked by personal and financial difficulties, his reputation grew after his death. The Great Gatsby is now considered a central text in American literature and is widely studied in schools. It was first published in 1925.
