Emma Hinds is a novelist and playwright whose fiction blends historical settings, gothic atmosphere and queer narratives for adult and young adult readers. Her debut novel, The Knowing, was acquired by Bedford Square Publishers following trade-press coverage of the deal.
The Knowing was published by Bedford Square on 18 January 2024. Publicity materials describe the book as a dark, suspenseful story set amid criminal underworlds, and it was promoted as a Sunday Times Historical Fiction Book of the Month. Hinds has since written The Quick and the Dead for Bedford Square.
Her forthcoming young adult novel, Witchlore, is set for 2025 publication, with Usborne as the UK publisher and Wednesday Books as the US publisher following a pre-empt. The project has been trailed as a contemporary fantasy rooted in British magical folklore.
Hinds holds a Master’s degree from the University of St Andrews and identifies as a queer writer. Alongside her novels, she is known for the long-running fanfiction cycle The Heir to the House of Prince. Earlier recognitions noted on author platforms include longlistings for BBC Writersroom and the Mslexia Novel Competition.
