Eliza Berkowitz biography

Eliza Berkowitz is a writer and former children’s book editor with more than two decades of experience in publishing. Her work spans illustrated non-fiction for young readers and compact gift books for general audiences.

For middle-grade nature enthusiasts, she wrote A Kid’s Guide to Backyard Birds and A Kid’s Guide to Backyard Bugs (Gibbs Smith, both published 7 March 2023), practical field guides illustrated by Nicole LaRue that introduce common species and simple recording activities. She compiled Lonely Planet Kids Infographic Guide to the Globe (Lonely Planet Kids, 17 November 2020), presenting geography and world facts through large-format visuals for children.

Her adult and crossover titles include This Is a Book for People Who Love Cats (Running Press, 22 August 2023), an illustrated introduction to feline history, behaviour and breeds. She also authored The Little Encyclopedia of Mythical Horses: An A-to-Z Guide to Legendary Steeds in the “Little Encyclopedias of Mythological Creatures” series (Running Press, on sale 6 February 2024), a compact survey of equine figures from global myth and folklore.

Across these projects, Berkowitz focuses on clear structure, concise explanation and approachable design, helping readers build factual knowledge in engaging, highly visual formats.
