Eiichiro Oda is a Japanese manga artist best known as the creator of One Piece. He began working as an assistant on popular manga series in the 1990s before debuting his own work.
One Piece was first serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997. The story follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of pirates in their search for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. The series has become the best-selling manga in history, with more than 500 million copies in circulation worldwide, and has been adapted into anime, films and video games.
Oda has received multiple awards for his work, including the 41st Japan Cartoonists Association Award in 2012. One Piece began serialisation in 1997.
