Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
E. V. Woods is a UK author of young adult gothic fantasy. A graduate of the University of Birmingham with a degree in English Literature, she writes fiction that blends folklore-inflected fantasy with high-stakes emotion.
Woods’ debut novel, Girls of Dark Divine, was acquired by Usborne in the UK alongside a second romantasy title. In the United States the book was acquired by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House. Girls of Dark Divine was first published on 5 August 2025 by Delacorte Press, with the UK edition following from Usborne on 14 August 2025.
Publisher materials describe Woods as an author who has written since childhood and is drawn to stories threaded with darkness and magic. Her work has been positioned for readers of gothic romance and ballet-set suspense, with Girls of Dark Divine promoted as a tale of cursed dancers and the cost of freedom.
