E.M. Forster was an English novelist, essayist and critic. He studied at King’s College, Cambridge, and became known for his novels examining class, social conventions and human connection.
Forster’s works include A Room with a View (1908), Howards End (1910) and A Passage to India (1924). Though he did not primarily write for children, his novel The Machine Stops (1909), a dystopian short story, has often been taught to older students for its exploration of technology and society. A Passage to India won both the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and the Femina Vie Heureuse Prize in 1924.
He was elected a Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge in 1946 and was made a Companion of Honour in 1953. A Passage to India received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1924.
