Dominique Valente biography

Dominique Valente is a children’s author known for her fantasy series Starfell. Born in South Africa, Valente began her career as a journalist before turning to fiction writing. She has written for both children and adults, but is best recognised for her middle-grade work.

The Starfell series follows the adventures of Willow Moss, a young witch with the unique ability to find lost things. The first book, Starfell: Willow Moss and the Lost Day, was published by HarperCollins Children’s Books in 2019. The series has been illustrated by Sarah Warburton. Subsequent titles in the series include Starfell: Willow Moss and the Forgotten Tale, Starfell: Willow Moss and the Vanished Kingdom, and Starfell: Willow Moss and the Magic Thief.

Valente’s writing is characterised by imaginative world-building and a focus on themes of self-acceptance and friendship. She has spoken about her experiences with dyslexia and how it has influenced her approach to storytelling. In addition to her work for children, Valente has written women’s fiction under a pseudonym.

The first book in the Starfell series, Willow Moss and the Lost Day, was published in 2019 by HarperCollins Children’s Books.
