David West is a British illustrator and author known for producing educational nonfiction for children. He studied at Leicester College of Art, specialising in illustration, before beginning a career that has included both freelance work and book publishing.
West has illustrated and written numerous titles that introduce scientific and historical subjects to young readers. His work is often characterised by detailed drawings designed to explain complex information clearly. He has contributed to series covering topics such as dinosaurs, natural history, and human anatomy.
His books include What’s Inside the Dinosaurs? (2007), What’s Inside the Human Body? (2008), and What’s Inside the World of Science? (2010), published by Franklin Watts. These titles use cutaway illustrations to show the inner workings of organisms, machines, and natural systems. He has also produced works on military history and natural disasters for children’s educational publishers.
West’s illustrations and authored titles have been published internationally and translated into multiple languages, supporting school and library collections in the UK and abroad.
What’s Inside the Dinosaurs? was shortlisted for the 2008 Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize.
