David Dean is a British children’s book illustrator. He holds a BA (Hons) from Manchester Metropolitan University, awarded in 1999, and an MA in Communication Design.
He works digitally and retains an aesthetic informed by his earlier experience with acrylic paint.
His portfolio includes book covers, maps, children’s illustrations and more.
Dean’s clients include Penguin Random House, Barefoot Books, Chicken House, Egmont Children’s Books, Bloomsbury Children’s, Faber & Faber, Nosy Crow, Michael O’Mara Books, Scholastic, Piccadilly Press, HarperCollins, Walker Books and Oxford University Press.
He was shortlisted in the British Book Design & Production Awards for Branding/Identity in 2010, and he won a Gold Medal in the 3×3 Picture Book Show in 2012.
Dean was interviewed on Children’s Illustrators, in which he said he gravitates toward illustration for middle-grade books and adventure with mystery, and that he hopes readers lose themselves in his artwork.
