David Baddiel is a British author, comedian, and screenwriter. He is known for his work in children’s literature as well as for his contributions to television and comedy. Baddiel studied English at King’s College, Cambridge. He first gained prominence as a comedian, notably as part of the double act Newman and Baddiel, and later with Frank Skinner, co-creating the television shows The Mary Whitehouse Experience and Fantasy Football League.
Baddiel’s debut children’s novel, The Parent Agency, was published by HarperCollins Children’s Books in 2014. The book won the LOLLIES (Laugh Out Loud Book Awards) in 2016. He has since written several other children’s books, including The Person Controller (2015), Animalcolm (2016), Birthday Boy (2017), Head Kid (2018), The Taylor TurboChaser (2019), Future Friend (2020), and The Boy Who Got Accidentally Famous (2021). His books are illustrated by Jim Field and Steven Lenton.
Baddiel’s works have been translated into multiple languages and have sold over one million copies in the UK. In addition to his children’s books, he has written novels for adults and several screenplays. The Parent Agency was optioned for film adaptation by Fox 2000.
In 2022, Baddiel published The Boy Who Got Accidentally Famous with HarperCollins Children’s Books.
