Claire Powell is a British children’s author and illustrator. She studied graphic design after being advised against pursuing illustration at university, and later returned to children’s book illustration as her main work.
Powell’s first book deal was in 2016. She has illustrated titles for a range of children’s authors, including Alasdair Beckett-King’s Montgomery Bonbon series and Beth Lincoln’s The Swifts. Powell’s illustrations for The Swifts have been credited with reaching the New York Times bestseller list.
In 2025, Powell published her debut as both author and illustrator with Walker Books: Marty Moose: First Class Mischief, the first book in her Marty Moose series for newly independent readers.
The second book in the series, Marty Moose: The Great Stamp-ede, is scheduled for publication by Walker Books on 12 March 2026.
