Christopher John Reid, FRSL, is a British poet, essayist, cartoonist and editor born in 1949 in Hong Kong.
He was educated at Tonbridge School and then read English at Exeter College, Oxford, between 1968 and 1971.
His debut poetry collection was Arcadia (1979), and it won both the Somerset Maugham Award and the Hawthornden Prize.
Reid was Poetry Editor at Faber and Faber from 1991 to 1999.
In 2009 his collection A Scattering, written as a tribute to his wife Lucinda Gane, won the Costa Book of the Year Award.
He has written books of poetry for children, including All Sorts (1999) and Alphabicycle Order (2001).
