Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Christine Pillainayagam is a British author known for her work in young adult fiction. Her debut novel, Ellie Pillai is Brown, was published by Faber & Faber in 2022. The book explores themes of identity, family, and belonging, drawing on the author’s own experiences of growing up as a British Tamil. In addition to her writing, Pillainayagam is also a songwriter, and her debut novel features original songs that she wrote and performed. Ellie Pillai is Brown was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2023.
