Cassandra Clare biography

Cassandra Clare is the pen name of Judith Lewis, an American author best known for her young adult fantasy series. She gained prominence with the publication of City of Bones in 2007, the first book in The Mortal Instruments series, published by Simon & Schuster. The series includes six books: City of Bones (2007), City of Ashes (2008), City of Glass (2009), City of Fallen Angels (2011), City of Lost Souls (2012), and City of Heavenly Fire (2014).

Clare expanded the Shadowhunter universe with The Infernal Devices trilogy: Clockwork Angel (2010), Clockwork Prince (2011), and Clockwork Princess (2013). She continued with The Dark Artifices trilogy, comprising Lady Midnight (2016), Lord of Shadows (2017), and Queen of Air and Darkness (2018). Additional works include The Bane Chronicles (2014), co-written with Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson, and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy (2016), co-authored with several writers.

Clare’s books have appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list. City of Bones was adapted into a feature film in 2013, and The Mortal Instruments inspired the television series Shadowhunters, which premiered in 2016. Her work has been translated into multiple languages and published internationally.

In 2017, Lady Midnight won the Children’s Choice Book Award for Teen Book of the Year. Clare’s novels are published by Simon & Schuster and Walker Books in the UK. Her most recent series, The Last Hours, began with Chain of Gold in 2020, followed by Chain of Iron (2021) and Chain of Thorns (2023).

Clare’s books have sold millions of copies worldwide, and City of Bones was shortlisted for the 2010 Georgia Peach Book Awards for Teen Readers.
