Carnovsky biography

Carnovsky is the Milan-based artistic duo formed by Silvia Quintanilla and Francesco Rugi. They are known for their innovative work in illustration and design, particularly their use of RGB (red, green, blue) techniques to create layered images that reveal different elements under coloured light. Their work spans various media, including books, wallpapers, and installations.

Carnovsky illustrated the children’s book Illuminature, written by Rachel Williams and published by Wide Eyed Editions in 2016. The book uses their signature RGB technique, allowing readers to explore different layers of the natural world with a three-coloured lens. Illuminature was shortlisted for the 2017 British Book Design and Production Awards in the Children’s Trade category.

They also illustrated Illuminatlas (2018), written by Kate Davies and published by Wide Eyed Editions, and Illuminightmare (2019), written by Lucy Brownridge. These books employ the same interactive visual approach, encouraging readers to discover hidden details within each page.

Carnovsky’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Their distinctive style has been recognised in both the design and publishing industries. In 2017, Illuminature was included in the White Ravens list by the International Youth Library.

Their most recent illustrated book, Illuminature: Discover 180 animals with your magic three colour lens, was published in 2022 by Wide Eyed Editions.
