Ben Clanton is a Canadian-American author and illustrator known for his work in children’s literature. He is the creator of the popular graphic novel series Narwhal and Jelly, which began with Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea published by Tundra Books in 2016. The series includes titles such as Super Narwhal and Jelly Jolt (2017), Peanut Butter and Jelly (2018), Narwhal’s Otter Friend (2020), and Happy Narwhalidays (2020).
Clanton has also written and illustrated picture books including Mo’s Mustache (2013), Rex Wrecks It! (2014), It Came in the Mail (2016), and Vote for Me! (2012). His work has been published by several major publishers, including Tundra Books and Simon & Schuster.
The Narwhal and Jelly series has received multiple accolades. Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea won the 2017 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Early Readers. The series has also been recognised by the American Library Association and featured on numerous best books lists.
Clanton’s books have been translated into several languages and are widely available in libraries and schools. In 2022, he published A Super Scary Narwhalloween, continuing the Narwhal and Jelly series. His work is noted for its humour, accessible storytelling, and distinctive illustration style.
