Attica Locke biography

Attica Locke is an American author and screenwriter known for her crime fiction and mystery novels. Her debut novel, Black Water Rising, was published in 2009 by HarperCollins and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize, nominated for an Edgar Award, and selected for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Locke’s second novel, The Cutting Season, was published in 2012 and won the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence.

In 2015, she released Pleasantville, which won the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction. Locke’s fourth novel, Bluebird, Bluebird, was published in 2017 by Mulholland Books and received the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 2018. The book also won the Anthony Award for Best Novel. Heaven, My Home, the sequel to Bluebird, Bluebird, was published in 2019.

Locke has contributed as a writer and producer to television series including Empire and When They See Us. Her novels have been published by major publishers such as HarperCollins and Mulholland Books. Locke’s work has been recognised with several literary awards, including the Edgar Award and the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction.

In 2019, Heaven, My Home was longlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.
