Arthur Miller was an American playwright and essayist. He is best known for his plays, several of which have become classics of modern theatre. His notable works include All My Sons (1947), Death of a Salesman (1949), The Crucible (1953), and A View from the Bridge (1955). Death of a Salesman won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1949 and the Tony Award for Best Play. Miller also wrote screenplays, including the script for The Misfits (1961). He received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1984 and the Praemium Imperiale prize for theatre in 2001. Miller’s work has been translated into numerous languages and continues to be studied and performed internationally. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1979.
