Alice James biography

Alice James is a British author and editor at Usborne Publishing, specialising in children’s science books. She joined Usborne after working in primary schools and has a strong passion for science. Over the years, she has lived with chimpanzees, spent a month in the rainforest, studied biology at Oxford University, and grown 200 carnivorous plants—not necessarily in that order. At Usborne, she has worked on books covering various science topics, from space to energy and the periodic table.

James co-authored Big Questions About the Universe (2022) with Alex Frith, illustrated by David J. Plant. The book addresses common and uncommon questions children have about space, such as ‘How do black holes work?’ and ‘What’s going to happen at the end of time?’ It was curated in consultation with staff from London’s Royal Observatory and is part of Usborne’s ‘Big Questions’ series. The book is designed to engage young readers with its informative content and engaging illustrations.
