Alex Willmore biography

Alex Willmore is a British illustrator and author known for his work in children’s picture books. He studied illustration for children’s publishing at the North Wales School of Art and Design. Willmore has illustrated numerous titles, collaborating with various authors and publishers. His illustrations appear in books such as The Runaway Pea written by Kjartan Poskitt, which was shortlisted for the 2020 Oscar’s Book Prize and the 2020 Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Awards. He has also illustrated The Runaway Pea: Washed Away, The Runaway Pea: Left Behind, and The Runaway Pea: Up in the Air.

Willmore’s solo works include I Did See a Mammoth! and Duck’s Backyard. His illustrations are featured in It’s My Sausage by Alex Willmore, AdoraBULL by Alison Donald, and The Great Paint by Alex Willmore. His books have been published by Simon & Schuster, Macmillan Children’s Books, and other major publishers.

In 2023, The Runaway Pea was selected for the BookTrust Storytime Prize shortlist. Willmore’s work has been translated into multiple languages and distributed internationally.
