Stephanie Blake is an American author and illustrator of children’s literature, born in 1968 in Northfield, Minnesota. She currently resides in Paris, France. A self-taught artist, Blake began her creative journey by crafting books for her siblings during childhood. Her early influences include renowned authors and illustrators such as A.A. Milne, Astrid Lindgren, Dr. Seuss, and Tomi Ungerer.
Blake’s most notable creation is the “Simon” series, featuring an anthropomorphic rabbit named Simon. The series, which began with Poo Bum in 2002, has expanded to include numerous titles like Super Rabbit, Stupid Baby, and I Don’t Want to Go to School. These books are celebrated for their humour and simplicity, resonating with young readers and their families. The “Simon” series has been translated into over 20 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide. In 2016, it was adapted into an animated series, further extending its reach.
In addition to her work on the “Simon” series, Blake has authored other children’s books, including Wooolf!, Nooo! Not the Dentist!, and Nits. Her books have been published by various international publishers, including Gecko Press, Random House, and L’École des loisirs.
In May 2025, Blake ventured into adult fiction with the publication of her first novel, Le Coup du lapin, released by Éditions La Tribu.
