Rakhshan Rizwan biography

Rakhshan Rizwan is a writer and scholar whose work combines creative writing and academic research. She has a PhD in Comparative Literature, and her research interests include human rights and literature, postcolonial novels, decolonial legal fictions, and minority rights and representation.

Her academic book Kashmiri Life Narratives: Human Rights, Pleasure and the Local Cosmopolitan was published by Taylor & Francis on 1 February 2022 as part of the Routledge Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Literature series. The book examines memoirs, non-fictional and fictional Bildungsromane connected with Kashmir, and analyses them through human rights discourse and advocacy.

Rizwan is the author of the poetry pamphlet Paisley, published in 2017. Paisley was shortlisted for the Michael Marks Poetry Prize.

Her books include Europe, Love Me Back, published in 2022, and Paisley: Poems, with Rachel Piercey as editor and an introduction by Leila Aboulela.
