R.J. Timmis biography

R.J. Timmis is an Australian children’s author-illustrator, also published as Rebecca Timmis. Her work combines fast-paced, humorous storytelling with character-driven fantasy for emerging and middle-grade readers.

Timmis studied animation at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art before moving into design and illustration, alongside a professional children’s writing course. Early recognition came when her short story “The House on Connor’s Street” was Highly Commended in the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association’s Short Story Competition and broadcast on international radio.

She self-published the fantasy novel David and the Heart of Aurasius in 2010 and continued the Esmorde sequence with The Brothers of Turoc and David and the Scavenger Prince. Her later work with trade publishers includes the illustrated shark-band caper series Jawsome for Allen & Unwin, followed by the sequel Licence to Rock.
