Nicholas Fisk was the pen name of David Higginbottom, a British author known for his science fiction books for children and young adults. Fisk began his writing career after working as an illustrator, photographer, and jazz musician. His first book, Space Hostages, was published in 1967. Over the following decades, he wrote more than twenty novels, many of which explored themes of technology, space, and the future.
Fisk’s notable works include Grinny (1973), which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, and its sequel You Remember Me! (1981). Trillions (1971) and A Rag, a Bone and a Hank of Hair (1980) are also among his best-known titles. His books were published by several major publishers, including Hodder & Stoughton and Puffin Books.
Fisk’s writing received recognition from literary bodies, with Grinny being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal in 1974. His works have been translated into multiple languages and remain in print in various editions. Fisk retired from writing in the 1990s. His final book, Hit the Ground Running, was published in 1996.
