Jennifer Gardy is a Canadian scientist and author. She holds a PhD in microbiology from the University of British Columbia. Gardy has worked as a senior scientist at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control and as an associate professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Population and Public Health.
Gardy is the author of the children’s non-fiction book It Takes Guts: How Your Body Turns Food Into Fuel (and Poop), published by Walker Books in 2020. The book, illustrated by Belle Wuthrich, explores the human digestive system for a young audience.
In addition to her writing, Gardy has contributed to science communication through television, including presenting on CBC’s The Nature of Things and Discovery Channel Canada’s Daily Planet.
Her book It Takes Guts was shortlisted for the 2021 AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books in the Children’s Science Picture Book category.
