Iszi Lawrence is a British author, comedian, and podcaster. She is known for writing historical fiction for children. Lawrence’s debut children’s novel, The Unstoppable Letty Pegg, was published by Bloomsbury in 2020. The book explores the world of the suffragettes and jujitsu in Edwardian England. Her second children’s novel, Billie Swift Takes Flight, was published by Bloomsbury in 2021 and is set during the Second World War, focusing on the Air Transport Auxiliary.
Lawrence is also recognised for her work as a podcaster, co-hosting the BBC Radio 4 show Making History and producing the Z List Dead List podcast, which highlights overlooked historical figures. In addition to her writing and broadcasting, Lawrence has performed as a stand-up comedian and has appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Her books have been well-received and are noted for their historical accuracy and engaging storytelling. The Unstoppable Letty Pegg was shortlisted for the 2021 Historical Association Young Quills Award. Lawrence continues to write historical fiction for young readers, with her third children’s novel, The Time Machine Next Door: Explorers and Milkshakes, published by Bloomsbury in 2023.
