Hergé biography

Hergé was the pen name of Georges Remi, a Belgian comic strip artist best known for creating The Adventures of Tintin. Born in Brussels, Hergé began his career working for the newspaper Le Vingtième Siècle, where he launched the first Tintin story, Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, in 1929. The Tintin series follows the adventures of a young reporter named Tintin and his dog, Snowy, as they travel the world solving mysteries and encountering a variety of characters.

Hergé’s clear line drawing style, known as “ligne claire,” became highly influential in the world of comics. Over the course of his career, he produced 24 Tintin albums, which have been published in numerous languages and have had a significant impact on the development of the comic strip medium. In addition to Tintin, Hergé also created other comic strips, including Quick & Flupke and Jo, Zette and Jocko.

Hergé established Studios Hergé in 1950 to assist with the growing demands of his work. His meticulous approach to research and storytelling contributed to the distinctive style and enduring popularity of his comics. Hergé’s work has been recognised with several awards, including the Grand Prix Saint-Michel in 1977.

The final completed Tintin adventure, Tintin and the Picaros, was published in 1976.
